The Namib Desert is primarily in Namibia but it extends into Angola. It is in the southwest part of Angola where the Namib Desert forms Namib-Naukluft Nationa Park which is the largest game reserve in all of Africa.
The Namib name translates locally to the “vast place,” and the desert is recorded as the oldest desert on the earth. The Namib Desert accounts for 31,200 square miles (90,000 sq km). Although not as big as the Sarah Desert, the Namib is large stretching 1,000 miles (1600 km) from north to south and the widest spot reaches 100 miles (160 km) across.
