Fish River Canyon is located in the southern region of Namibia.  As the largest canyon in Africa, it would be appropriate to call it the Grand Canyon of Africa.  Fish River Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world behind the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon in Tibet and the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA.

The Fish River Canyon stretches over 100 miles (160 km) long.  The widest part of the canyon measures 16.8 miles (27 km) while the deepest  places reaches a depth of 1,804 feet (550 m).

No matter what rank in canyon comparison, it is fair to say that Fish River Canyon is a notable natural wonder of the world.  It is one of the most impressive scenic areas in Africa and a significant tourism destination for Namibia.
