Sesriem

Sesriem is situated in Namibia, South Africa. It is acclaimed all over the world because of its splendid grounds that are perfect for camping. It got its name from the Sesriem Canyon which is close in proximity to the site. Sesriem is considered as the entrance to the celebrated sand dune desert and the dunes at Sossusvlei, which is one of the most popular attractions throughout Namibia. The region is located around a picturesque landscape, with an array of mountains and dunes.

The name “Sesriem” came from the early inhabitants of the place, who desired to acquire water from the nearby canyon. In order to do that, they had to make use of six lengths of rope to carry their buckets so that they can draw water for their livestock. The ropes were called “lee riems” in African language, adding “ses” which means six. The area became famous as “Ses Rieme” or Sesriem.

The area is surrounded by beautiful camelthorn trees which are being sustained by the water coming from Tsauchab River, which soaks in the clay underneath. When looking for camping sites near the dunes at Sossusvlei, Sesriem is the perfect place. Individuals can go on adventurous 4×4 rides or uncover the area by foot.
