Golden Gate Highlands

The Golden Gate Highlands National Park is one of the natural wonders of Africa that is Located in Free State in the Republic of South Africa that is near the Lesotho border. The area of the park is about 340 square kilometers or 131.3 square miles. Golden Gate is known for its golden like, ocher and orange colored sandstone cliffs. The most popular is the Brandwag rock that serves as the vigilante on the rest of the park.

The Golden Gates Highlands National Park provides a unique environment and a true highland habitat that provides home to several mammals like eland, oribi, springbok, Burchell’s zebra and black wildebeest. Golden Gates is also rich in its bird life. As a matter of fact, there are over 100 species of birds and that includes the rare bearded vulture called Lammergeier. Wildlife animals including mongooses can also be found at the park. Another fact is that Golden Gates is the only national park of Free State and presumably speaking that the park is the Free State’s pride because of its natural wonders.

Ribbokkop is the highest point of the park that reveals an astonishing view of red yellow and purple hues in the night that comes in warm shades and beautiful scenery to look at.

Another attraction of the park is the various caves and dwellings that pictures San rock paintings which provide the evidence that the earliest human civilization once live there. Numbers of various discoveries can be also found in the park including dinosaur skeleton and dinosaur eggs.
